Raising Money (and Awareness) for Mental Health

2022 is my fourth year participating in NAMIWalks. So why do I raise money for NAMI? I've been battling depression since I was a junior in high school when I was 16. When I was that age, NAMI did not exist where I lived, and even with thoughts of suicide as I entered adulthood, I had nowhere to turn. Mental health was still a taboo topic.

A mental breakdown shortly before my 30th birthday led me to enter therapy on a regular basis. I thought I was getting better, but a massive panic attack in 2014 led me to realize that I needed to do more to take care of my mental health.

I've been open about my struggles because I know it can help someone out there. I am putting my story together in what I hope will one day become a book.

Like NAMI, I envision a world where all people affected by mental illness live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares. I am participating in NAMIWalks to raise awareness and funds that support free, top-rated programs for our community.

I have raised more than $3,500 dollars for NAMI these last three years. With my goal once again set for $1,000, I hope you will consider donating to an important cause.
