Dad Lunch Note #600

I hate making mistakes or asking for help. I was too proud to do either of those.

Well, at least I hated both of these things midway through my 30s. Then, I realized that:

1. I’m going to screw up. If I constantly try to avoid making mistakes, then I will end up making a bigger mistake.

2. I can’t do this life by myself. There were moments when I felt as though I was by myself, but I have a teammate (Ashleigh) who balances me out. I will need help. I can’t go solo. That’s why I never went to any Homecoming dances in high school.

Asking for help is not a weakness. Nor is making mistakes. After all, we are human (well, I think most of us are anyway). Who cares if you can’t pronounce Worcestershire? I’m from south Louisiana...I’m pretty sure most of the things I say may sound weird.

There are some words I struggle to say - mostly because I grew up with a hearing problem in my ear. But, I do know when to say I was wrong (I’m getting better) and when to ask for help (reluctantly).
